What is a Health Check?

A health check is an analysis of key areas of your accountancy practice that impact on the performance of your business.

The health check will uncover any variances in these key areas and calculate the impact on performance by correcting the variances.

The health check analysis is prepared using specialized software developed by CL Whelan and Associates.

Data is collected from your practice and used to calculate chargeout rates, Key performance Indicators and other information.

How will our practice benefit from a Health Check?

A Health Check analysis will provide diagnostic information about your practice that will assist with decision making and ultimately improved performance. The type of diagnostic information you will receive includes:

  • Chargeout rates - an independent calculation for each direct employee.
  • Benchmarking - Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for your practice benchmarked against accountancy practices in your state.
  • What If analysis - assesses the impact on profitability of your practice resulting from changes in variables.

What will be included in our Health Check analysis?

Your practice will receive a report containing the following information:

Chargeout rates analysis
      -
The analysis will compare the chargeout rates your firm is currently charging for each employee with what you should be charging. Our calculations will analyse all labour and overhead costs as well as other variables such as productivity and write offs and calculate the chargeout rates per direct employee that should be charged to achieve your required Net Profit.

Benchmark Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for your practice
      - We will prepare an analysis that will benchmark the following areas of your firm:
        ° Revenue KPIs
        ° Cost KPIs

  °
Labour Efficiency
        ° Staff Ratios
        ° Average Partner Chargeout rate

What If analysis

      -
Now that we have all this data available to us, we can prepare one or more What If analysis for your practice.
      -
A What If analysis allows any number of variables to be changed and the impact on chargeout rates, KPIs and Net Profit monitored.
      -
We will use the What If tool within our software to report on the potential impact on Net Profit of your practice as a result of changes to one or more of your firm's chargeout rates in line with our chargeout rate analysis above.
      -
We will also use the What If analysis to make recommendations on how the KPIs of your practice may be improved and the potential impact on Net Profit.

How will data on our practice be collected?

Data is collected from your practice using an Excel template developed by CL Whelan and Associates.

  • At the commencement of the consultancy an Excel spreadsheet will be sent to your practice.
  • Data on labour, overheads and other information will be entered into the spreadsheet.
  • An instruction manual will accompany the template to explain data requirements and at all times phone support will be available from CL Whelan and Associates.
  • When complete, the spreadsheet is emailed to CL Whelan and Associates.
  • The data is checked by CL Whelan and Associates and imported into the Health Check software for analysis.
  • A draft report is prepared and sent to you for review and comment.
  • Amendments are made to the draft report where necessary and a final report is sent to you. Finally a conference call is held with your firm and CL Whelan and Associates to discuss the report.
